Jamie Wood’s love of creating art started in Kindergarten. Inspired by color crayons and a love of drawing, she began to explore different mediums. A versatile artist, Wood works in a variety of mediums including painting in acrylic and sculpture in clay & wood. Born and raised in Prineville, Oregon, Jamie draws inspiration from the worldthat’s outside her back door, as well as across the oceans of time and history. Wildlife and landscapes have always played a part in her work. Lately, however, the self‑taught artist has been creating works based on the lives of the ancient Egyptians. Like her interest in art, Wood’s love of ancient Egypt started when she wasyoung. She was introduced to ancient Egypt when she was in grade school through her mother and her maternal aunt’s love of all things Egyptian. “I have always envied the technique and the skill the Egyptians used to create their monuments,” she explains. They created wonderful art even though the ancient artists faced a number of challenges, she points out: “In the Valley of the Kingstoday there are electric lights hung in the tombs and it’s well lit, but in theancient times they were doing it with oil lamps that they added salt toso they wouldn’t smoke so much. They created their art by hand, in the dark with a copper chisel and a wooden mallet.” Jamie has shown her work in juried art shows and galleries around the Pacific Northwest, as well as doing a special exhibition at the Luxor in Las Vegas.
